How much work is done on a Luttinger liquid during a quantum quench?    [PDF]

Balázs Dóra, Ádám Bácsi
We study the statistics of work done on a Luttinger liquid after an interaction ramp of arbitrary duration, ranging from the sudden quench to the adiabatic limit. Fast quenches in large systems yield a generalized Gumbel or a Gaussian distribution, depending on the quench duration, carrying almost all the spectral weight. Slow and small quenches give an oscillating PDF with dips at energies commensurate to the quench duration and an exponential envelope, though most of the spectral weight is transfered to a Dirac-delta peak at the adiabatic ground state energy of the final state. Relevance to cold atoms is discussed.
