Non-linear doublon production in a Mott insulator --- Landau-Dykhne
method applied to an integrable model
   [PDF]

Doublon-hole pair production in a Mott insulator in strong electric fields is studied using the Landau-Dykhne method combined with the Bethe ansatz solution of the 1d Hubbard model. The excitation takes place due to non-linear effects, i.e., multi-photon absorption and quantum tunneling, and we observe the Keldysh crossover between the two mechanisms. The theory is a many-body extension of the theory of electron-positron pair production in non-linear QED. We also compare the results with time dependent density matrix renormalization group.
